NRTC Member Brings Wind Farm Online
NRTC member Basin Electric Power Cooperative brought a major wind farm online on Dec. 30, 2009, near Minot, ND. The 77-turbine wind project is the country’s largest wind farm wholly owned by an electric cooperative. By the end of 2010, the wind farm will generate about 600 megawatts of electricity—enough to meet the annual electricity needs of about 175,000 homes. Basic Electric is a generation and transmission electric cooperative responsible for delivering power to distribution electric cooperatives in nine states.
