KnowBe4 Stresses Importance of Strong Security Culture Among Employees

JB Peterson / Jan 6, 2021

Every 14 seconds, a business is the victim of a ransomware attack, often with devastating consequences. Many of these cybercriminals bypass perimeter defenses with increasingly sophisticated social engineering attacks. How can you and your business combat these threats?

NRTC sponsored a webinar in early December, “Strengthening the Weakest Link: Improving Employee Practices through Security Culture.” This 20-minute presentation was part of the NTCA Cybersecurity Summit on Dec. 9 and hosted by NRTC’s partners at KnowBe4.

Presenter James McQuiggan, security awareness advocate for KnowBe4 told the audience that to promote a strong security culture in your business, training is a good start, but employees complete it, move on and, most of the time, don’t really remember it. Implementing a security culture within your business can help instill a security-focused mindset in your employees and significantly reduce the risk of a data breach.

People are a critical layer within the fabric of your security program. Ninety-one percent of cyber espionage begins with phishing attacks and 95 percent of all security incidents involve human error. But with the correct security culture and ongoing training, you can turn your company’s biggest security liability, to a valued asset.

James presented a detailed plan on how to implement this security culture and how to get your employees to buy in.
