FCC Restarting 5G Fund Effort, But No Reverse Auction Date in Sight

Yesterday the FCC restarted the stalled momentum behind its 5G Fund, a program it began three years ago to expand mobile broadband coverage into unserved rural areas. It adopted rules in 2020 but decided not to set a date for reverse auctions to distribute funds until it had finished developing a more detailed National Broadband Map. With a more detailed map now completed, the FCC is still not ready to set an auction date, but instead is considering additional 5G Fund eligibility rules to clarify the rules it set in 2020.

Through the month of July, we will introduce five more videos covering topics including satellite internet and energy storage.

2022 Annual Report Describes Building the Dream Technology Project

NRTC today released its 2022 Annual Report featuring CEO Tim Bryan’s analysis of the past several years. NRTC has consciously moved to bring more expertise in-house to help members build communications networks that closely match their individual needs. The report also includes a look back at some of the highlights of 2022, which included moves to bring more experts in house and to introduce new technologies and services. An email to all NRTC members earlier today has a link to the report and full 2022 financial results.
