Mobile

Telecom and Broadband providers understand the importance of mobile voice and data services. Not only is it another way to keep communities and customers connected, it also promotes “stickiness” – offering multiple products, services and solutions that increase the likelihood a subscriber maintains service with you rather than switch to another provider.

The challenge, especially in more sparsely populated areas, is having the expertise as well as the financial resources to successfully build, launch and operate those services.

NRTC has for decades offered members a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) model, enabling them to deliver a robust nationwide mobile voice and data service without the huge capital investment of building their own network. In addition to the network, our members get access to NRTC’s back-end operational, billing and customer care services as well as access to devices and marketing support.

Members can choose the traditional MVNO model or the new Mobile Bundle for Broadband Providers, which includes competitive plans to offer customers, guaranteed revenue with one monthly cost per subscriber and provisioning, device fulfillment, billing and customer support that can shorten product launch.

National Spectrum Strategy Vague About Rural Wireless Coverage

NTIA has released a National Spectrum Strategy aimed at reorganizing spectrum allocations for both commercial licensees and government agencies and outline ways to use the airwaves more efficiently. New wireless technologies promise to transform national security, emergency service, economic development and other vital functions. Critics, however, say that after of years of study, the strategy is sketchy on details and does not recommend bands to reallocate for advanced technologies. The 26-page document only lightly touches on the issue of rural connectivity.

AI Optimists at FCC Hope to Transform Spectrum Management

Among the many roles future artificial intelligence tools potentially fill is to help the FCC manage wireless resources. There is increased demand for wireless connections, both fixed and mobile, throughout the nation. AI’s ability to collect and process data and then make rapid decisions, opens the potential for real-time, dynamic spectrum management decisions, according to FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel. More efficient spectrum management could facilitate applications such as precision agriculture and hasten expansion of rural wireless networks. Rosenworcel announced that the Commission intends next month to open a Notice of Inquiry to investigate the AI possibilities.
